Lately I have been getting quite a few followers. Most were those that followed me because I followed them but there are few weird ones, such as flatbellydiet. How did any know I have a flabby belly??
Anyways I tried to remove aka block a few but they seemed rather persistence and added me again. I am not trying to be anti-social but would rather keep the list clean. In fact, I am looking for a twitter tool that would allow me to group whom I am following so that I can categorise them by web 2.0, marketing, etc.
Recently I have been adding a few China Twitterati, courtesy of Cnreviews. My mandarin isn't fantastic so I am trying to get the English-speaking writers residing in China. Saw a few tweets in Mandarin but I have yet to decipher them. Another good thing of having China Twitterati is that from afternoon onwards, my twitter stream gets slow as most US/UK counterparts will be resting. So having Asian Twitterati balances my stream.
Was looking through my twitter stream when this caught my eye:
chrisbrogan: Share more of your thoughts on your avatar. I'd LOVE to get your ideas on this.
So I clicked the link. In it he asked these questions:
"What does your avatar mean to you? Do you change it often (on whatever services require one)? Do you use a picture of yourself or something else? Talk about avatars and what they mean to you in the comments, if you will. Talk about your online identity and how icons and avatars play into it."
My comment:
"Saw your question on Twitter but felt it’s not something that can be answered within 140 words.
Normally I will upload avatars on services that I will definitely be using. Such as MSN, Twitter and blogs. However, avatar display on these services varies.
For example, I don’t change my avatars on Twitter or blogs as often as MSN. Main reason is that MSN allows me to change to any pictures that reside on my computer. That makes it really easy for me to set a latest photo of myself. Plus those on my friends know me on some level or another personally.
On certain sites where I think it’s necessary for others to see how I look, I either crop a reasonable looking photo of myself into a decent pixel size (100 x 100 is really small).
For remaining services that I would like to be private, I use images as avatar."
Spent the first hour at work getting loudtwitter to work with vox. Apparently, I didn't change the setting under mobile setting to CREATE a post whenever vox receives an email. Duh duh!
From one of my new Twitter following, I chanced upon Emily Chang's twitter, which led me to her website. I admit that it was her 'stylo' profile that got me wondering..
I really like how her site is done. White background and using pink to brighten and highlight her links. Yums. Found an interesting concept at her site, which was her data stream.
Like the idea of getting a concise summary of online activities one has been doing. Also looked a fellow twitter wanidakok's blog only to realise she has done it. With FriendFeed. Needless to say..FriendFeed doesn't look as appealing as a personalised page. hmm..at times like this, I wish I am motivated enough to re-setup my domain. Like install wordpress, design a template, tweak it around to add twitter, data stream, blog, etc...
I also read through comments by others and realise I should start standardising my avatar photos on social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Currently, they spot different pictures of me. For such sites, I don't mind letting people who I am as it's for recognition, networking purposes. Avatars aside, I think username is just as important and that's where I have been using a common username.
Now, let me find a decent recent photo and then edit to a reasonably looking profile picture/avatar.
